Honda rock the Tokyo Motor Show

The new Yamaha Niken and the revamped Honda Goldwing stole the headlines from the Tokyo Motor Show. And while both new announcements have been all over motorcycle media, other weird, wacky and slightly cool announcements have flown under the radar. Here's a selection of Honda's contribution to the Tokyo Motor Show.

Honda Riding Assist-e

This self balancing motorcycle from Honda can stand unaided, all thanks to the wonders of technology. Using a gyroscope, the bike constantly reassesses its position, and moves the handlebars to ensure it stays upright. So if you want to ride at a snails pace, you can do so with out falling off. The gyroscope can be switched on and off, and can be set up above the front wheel.

Honda PCX125 Electric

There aren't many details out there yet about the electric version of the Honda PCX125. But what we do know, is that it will have a detachable battery and a high output Honda motor. With the future of vehicles moving ever closer to electric technology, this could be a good alternative to the gas guzzling scooters we see on the streets today.

Honda are also planning on releasing a Hybrid version, which uses a battery to assist the conventional engine - just in case you aren't ready to fully convert to the electric vehicle lifestyle.

Honda Monkey 125

The Honda Monkey celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and at the Tokyo Motor Show it was announced that a 125 version of the typically 50cc machine could be developed. The chances of the Monkey 125 making it out of Japan are slim, but you can never say never. Again, there's not much more than pictures available at the moment, but it is said that there will be LED lights and digital clocks.

And last but not least...

Honda Goldwing

The Honda Goldwing is popular among tourers, and the announcement of the 2018 model is sure to be a welcome one. It weighs around 40kg less and the engine will remain the same as previous models, but Honda have reportedly worked to make it lighter and smaller. More tech has been added, including four riding modes (Tour, Sport, Econ and Rain), selectable torque control, hillstart assist and cruise control. There will be a 7" colour LCD display, and will be the first motorcycle to use Apple CarPlay, which links the users iPhone to the bike to access maps, music, contacts and everything else you might need from your phone while riding.
