The Indian Scout FTR1200 Concept: The Biggest News Out Of EICMA 2017

Milano, Lombardia, Italy

Welcome the Indian Scout FTR1200 to the garage

The most exciting EICMA news is the reveal of the Indian Scout FTR1200. If you're following the new bikes unveiled in Milan this year there have been a few surprises. Some pretty kooky concepts too (yes I’m talking about you Yamaha Niken - ugh).

The FTR1200 Custom inspired by the Scout FTR750 flat tracker, and ridden by the Wrecking Crew took the first three places in the American Flat Track Series. The FTR1200 has been built with the help of Indian’s race team, but it’s more than a thinly disguised racer. It’s a street tracker powered by Indian’s regular 1133 cc V-Twin road engine, which now exhales through a stunning set of high pipes. See more bike pics at BikeExif's reveal.

Weighing 427 pounds, the FTR1200 is over 100 pounds lighter than a production 2018 Scout while sporting the same 1133 cc road engine.

The prototype is wearing custom components like S&S pipes, Roland Sands Design RSD Flat Track race wheels, and two-piece carbon-fiber body components.

Components like adjustable Öhlins suspension using 43mm conventional forks and monoshock, Brembo brakes, and Lyndall rotors go the extra mile. It’s safe to say that this bike has been built with real performance in mind and doesn’t stray too far from its flat track roots.

The new Scout FTR1200 is a stray from the classic cruiser options at Indian and it looks like a real departure for the company. Although Indian is calling the bike a “Street Tracker”, I can't help but wonder if they're taking on the “Scrambler” category owned by Ducati, Triumph, and the BMW R nineT? I guess time will tell once they put it into production (fingers crossed).
