Beginner Motorcycle

Reston, United States

I am a new rider in United States. Have riding experience back in India. I'm planning to buy a bike a soon. I really like the Yamaha FZ07. Should I buy it? Also would you recommend buying a new or used one, checked the prices not much of a difference.

Thanks Alex. This helps. I have riding experience so no braking anxiety as such. Yes in India, it was the 200cc and here the fz07 is 700cc. I did ride the bike and found it pretty comfortable. Getting a used one 2016 model with 1100 miles on it for 5400$. Hows that for a deal?

There's so many factors involved in asking "is this bike right for me": Height, weight, riding experience, how you want to ride etc.

You mention you have riding experience, so I'm guessing you know what you are doing - you don't have target fixation and braking anxiety, for example. The FZ07 is a fine bike, and capable of doing most of the motorcycling you'll ever need to do if that's the case. It's fairly comfortable to me (6', 200lbs) if that helps, too.

On the other hand, if you didn't feel overly comfortable on an bike in India (i'm guessing you were riding 150/200 sized bikes, right?) this may be a bit too much and you may want to consider something that in Europe is A2 compliant such as the CB500 /etc - This is a great section of value in biking in my opinion, and most will manage anything but the most gruelling of long distance touring.

I would (personally) suggest at that price point, you may also want to consider the Honda CB600. Similar price but I found it a more engaging ride.

Lastly, if the price difference isn't much, a new bike may be preferable. You never quite know how the previous owner rode it, and the warranty will cover you for the future.
