do your own maintenance!!

Nazareth, United States

When I meet a new rider I always stress the importance of doing your own maintenance on your motorcycle. While doing a routine oil change for the primary drive of my 2003 Ultra I noticed a large crack in the chain tension shoe. If this was overlooked, it could have resulted in the primary chain losing all tension. A catastrophic failure could have ensued.

When changing oil I always take the time to inspect fasteners, exposed wiring and even look to see how sparkly my oil looks. These are all things that you’d expect a repairman to look at and bring to your attention. However, this isn’t a car. Any issue can become a trip to the hospital when you’re dealing with two wheels and not four.
