Ducati Unveils New Matte Grey XDiavel S Livery for 2019

Los Angeles, California, United States

The Italian brand introduces a “matte liquid concrete grey” XDiavel for the coming model year.

America loves cruisers, and with the US market comprising Ducati’s biggest and most lucrative customer base, it was only natural for the Bologna-based brand to introduce a bonafide cruiser platform. Despite the company’s earlier lack of success with its first cruiser model (the Indiana, aka the “Italian Virago”), in 2010 Ducati pulled the cover off its latest “power cruiser”; the XDiavel. Upon its release the 90-degree L-Twin-powered two-wheeler was gobbled up by the motorcycling public, prompting the suits at Ducati to keep the cruiser in production, and introduce a myriad of “Dia-variants” boasting minor tweaks and changes.

Most recently Ducati has announced its cruiser platform will be getting a snazzy new livery for 2019; “matte liquid concrete grey”. Because the Italian cruiser already sports an array of blacked-out components and covers, the new matte grey paint scheme looks awesome and matches the bike's existing visual theme. On top of the matte paint digs, the 2019 X Diavel S also gets a new dark brown leather (two-up) saddle, as well as DLC-coated fork tubes, a black metallic frame, and a few other minor odds and ends such as the Ducati reservoir caps.

Keen observers may notice additional changes to the Diavel for 2019 such as a matte Ducati tank emblem, and nifty hand-controls backlit in red. The Diavel’s 1,194cc L-Twin (the mill from the 1198 Superbike tuned for more low-end oomph) remains unchanged, putting down (a claimed) 152 horses at 9,500rpm, and 96.3 foot-pounds of torque at 5,000rpm. The XD’s bottom-end grunt is kept in check via Brembo's M50 units, and Ducati’s suite of electronic rider aides; Bosch ABS, Ducati Traction Control (AKA DTC), multiple fuel-mapping modes, and launch control, all of which are standard amenities on the 2019 cruiser.

North American Ducati dealerships are slated to begin taking orders for the matte liquid concrete grey XDiavel S starting next month in November, though prices have yet to be announced. Outside of select limited edition models, (aside from the 848), Ducati has largely refrained from adorning its two-wheeled offerings in matte paint in recent years, so having the company announce this new grey Diavel just a handful of months after announcing the matte grey SuperSport, is pretty cool to see.
