This is an old photo of Steve Jobs riding a 1966 BMW, not sure what the model was. The photo ran in a 1982 National Geographic article titled "High Tech, High Risk, and High Life in Silicon Valley". I tried to find it on NG's website but it's no longer available.
Steve Jobs was born in 1955 and died yesterday, October 5th, 2011. Jobs died of a proliferation of pancreatic cancer - the same took my father's life in 2002. My dad was an early fan of Apple and got me hooked. Our first computer was a Commodore 64 http://esr.cc/pV8I3n but it was all Apple from there on in.
My dad also loved motorcycles and he got me hooked on those too. In Kiev, before we emmigrated, he had a Russian motorbike, but no one in the family seems to know what it was exactly and no photos survived. It was likely a IMZ-Ural http://esr.cc/p9ko0g but I don't remember any talk about a sidecar.
Well - so long Steve Jobs, I hope you enjoy the ride. And if you see my dad, let him borrow your motorbike!
