A Vespa Wheelie Record

Spielberg, Steiermark, Austria

Picture yourself pulling a wheelie on a Vespa.
Sounds kinda tough, doesn't it?
Now picture yourself doing it on a Vespa with no front wheel, while wearing a black bag over your head, riding through a course of cones, all while 30,000 people watch.

If you like a challenge, and your name's Günter Schachermayr then you can accomplish all of this with relative ease.
Schachermayr, 45, the Austrian stuntman who is known for his exploits on a Vespa scooter, recently completed his world record wheelie at Austria's Red Bull Ring racetrack.

He rode the unicycle Vespa through a slalom course of cones over a distance of one-quarter mile with the black bag over his head so he couldn't see or even breathe very well. Sort of like a kidnap victim making his escape.

He had a crew drive along beside him to provide radio directions so that he could navigate his way through the slalom course. It took hims two minutes and 17 seconds.

Schachermayr told Ruetir after the event that it was a challenge just to breathe.
“This black face mask does not let the air through and is tightened by the closure around the neck. After the first 100 meters your ears start to buzz, after 200 meters you struggle to hear the commands that reach you via radio, after 300 meters you can only find your way around and then the fight for survival begins! Towards the end I panicked but I made it and I’m thrilled to have set a new world record!”

I think I'll stick to bikes with two wheels and leave the black bag in the garbage can. Check out the video below.
