Eicma 2014: Matchless is back
Lombardy, Italy
Henry Collier, along with with his sons founded Matchless in 1899.
It mainly produced single and twins, with the last model Matchless model X rolling off the lines in 1940, shortly after the Second World War started.
Matchless - Here's looking at you, kid
The last of them was a 990cc v-twin good for about 80mp/h.
And 115 years after the company was founded, the model X is backed, reloaded, and it's a long way from the original.
Matchless - Shiny, shiny, shiny
The engine is an enormous 1916cc from S&S. No word on power but chances are, it will do 80mp/h in first.
Matchless - Breathless more like
The rest of the bike is quite spectacular. Attention to design is everywhere, as is authenticity with the front brakes being designed to look like a drum, despite being a nice modern disc.
Matchless - Front disc is made to look like a drum brake
Matchless - Details include the fishtail pipes
Matchless - Even the seat has its own suspension
Matchless - Lots of dials to look at
There's also no word on price but don't expect it to be cheap.
Matchless - No angle looks bad
