Flat Out Friday Flat Track Races This Week

Mama Tried. It’s more than a classic Merle Haggard song (although you may be more familiar with the Grateful Dead version), its’s your connection to Flat Out Friday which takes place this week.

Picture an indoor concrete track covered with Dr. Pepper syrup and riders from across the country banging bars in the largest indoor flat track motorcycle race in the land. Not only is the track unusual, but so are the racers – in a good way of course.

This is entertainment, racing, spectacle, and comedy, combined with the sights, smells, sounds, thrills, and competition of motorcycle racing. It’s one of those rare events that has something for everyone.

Racers from six to 79 years old compete in classes that include the popular Hooligan class where street legal motorcycles are modified for racing and the Goofball class where almost anything with two wheels, sometime more, sometimes fewer, take to the track! As with any self-respecting goofball event, all riders must wear costumes in this class.

There is a chopper class, a handshifter (brakeless class), boonie class (pull start engines), open women’s, women’s hooligan, and open vintage among other classes. The AA class has a $3600 purse with $100 per lap led.
