My May 26th 2018 SyncRIDE in Montreal

Distance: 13.8 Km / 8.6 Mi Duration: 00:38:27

Mornings are for motorcycles

Single digit mornings aren’t my specialty, especially on the weekends and even more so when there’s a good and steady rain. But EatSleepRIDE’s 2nd annual #SyncRIDE, an annual demonstration of the app’s built-in ability to connect a global community of motorcycle riders, provided more than enough inspiration. So, even though I was supposed to have been joined by many local and visiting riders , this very devoted out-of-towner Ride Captain (me) headed out into the wet to enjoy the event which included a breakfast stop at the Montreal biker institution - Hawg’s Deli, in the St Leonard district - before my solo/not solo #SyncRIDE.

The food at Hawg's was delicious (Montreal bagels are legendary for a reason!) and all the patrons and staff who passed by me and my helmet stopped to chat bikes, travel and adventure.  They also wished me well. And although there was some rain, I had a nice, albeit shortened ride to my destination, and a great time at Montreal’s inaugural Roll The Bones “Old School Motorcycle & Art Show”

Safety always matters

Riding in the rain isn’t optimal. It can reduce visibility and traction and can be uncomfortable, but it happens. If you need to be out there make sure you’re not taking too many risks. Ride more slowly and cautiously, wear the right gear - waterproof and visible, turn on CRASHLIGHT, especially if you’re out on your own and, if it gets torrential or lightning starts, find shelter until the danger passes.

Lucky us

Thanks again and a million to Joe Rocket Canada for providing spectacular gear - Hi-Viz jackets and gloves, and super practical and comfortable modular helmets to every 2018 #SyncRIDE Canadian Ride Captain. I certainly stood out on the road, not just because I looked great but also because of my bright safety gear.

And a special shout-out to the Canadian Safety Council who joined the 2018 #SyncRIDE at their "Gearing Up" rider training locations across the country.

Safety is as important as fun.
