Sorry - didn't mean to suggest they aren't useful per se - it's just that a hi-viz vest alone isn't enough, though @marina loves hers. I've long advocated Smiding/Siam as a technique that should be used irrespective and I think we all agree, whatever you can do to be safer is a good thing

@alex I don't believe the video shows hi-viz vest as not being useful. Like most safety techniques, they add to the cumulative safety. More importantly, the video highlights an issue that many riders don't consider, where even if a driver notices you, the looming effect demonstrated can mask your speed and distance.

SIAM manouver? I always called this Smidging... Excellent video. Should be mandatory viewing for all riders. And car drivers

@marina - this is also why Hi viz vests aren't always that useful - riding defensively is a better idea. Then again, both are probably better than just either of them

@BTTDiaz - this is a good example of why crowded roads (and bad drivers) are a problem.
