First Motorcycle Fatality in Toronto - Heads up everyone!

Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Just a reminder to be extra diligent - car drivers have forgotten we existed in the past 5 or so months!

Consider the situation like how snow catches everyone by surprise in Oct/Nov and can't drive in it compared to Feb/Mar. (except this year!)

Cheers!

Thursday, March 10, 2016, 7:56 AM - The first motorcycle fatality of the year was reported in the Toronto area Wednesday. Police say a motorcycle collided with another vehicle on Steeles Avenue, east of Islington just before 7 p.m.

According to police, the man in his 20s suffered "significant injuries" and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials are warning drivers to be alert and aware of more motorcycles on the road after a taste of spring-like weather this week.

"We need to start sharing the roadways with our motorcyclists and bicyclists," OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk told Heart FM Radio. "And we always need to make sure we're showing each other some type of respect on the roadways. And giving that distance - you're showing that motorcyclist that respect because if they decide to make a sudden turn and you decide to pass because you don't see that signal then now we're investigating a collision, possibly a fatality."

Police say motorcyclists and bicyclists also need to drive responsibly and to take the necessary steps to be sure they are easily visible.
