Lego and BMW's Hover Ride

BMW Motorrad recently tasked a design team with creating a 3D rendering of a concept based on a Lego set that uses the same pieces as the R1200GS Lego set.

In January Lego released the 603-piece GS kit that was the first officially licensed Lego kit in collaboration with the Bavarian manufacturer. That same Lego kit includes instructions for the 'Technic Hover Ride' which uses the same 603 pieces.

BMW must have been pretty impressed with the Lego's futuristic rendering of one of their best-selling and most iconic motorcycles since they put a design team of their own to work on generating a full-scale 3D rendering of the Technic Hover Ride.

Head of BMW Motorrad Vehicle Design, Alexander Buckan, said "It was a great idea and a superb creative challenge to develop a fictitious model from the parts of the Lego Technic BMW R 1200 GS Adventure set."

The Hover Ride is a very cool digital rendering that incorporates many of the more recognizable style elements that are unmistakably GS. It's also an excellent marketing and publicity idea that likely didn't cost much thanks to the excitement it's created on the internet.

Smart move.
