Video: Rider Plows into Car, Lands on Car, Hangs on

Rider Plows into Car, Lands on Car, Hangs on

An unlikely series of events

An unlikely series of events

On Friday a video surfaced of a particularly noteworthy accident on I-5 near Tumwater, Washington. The video shows a motorcyclist on a GSXR600 entering the freeway and then plowing into the back of a moving 2004 Acura sedan that was traveling at freeway speed. Somehow the rider ends up being thrown onto the roof of the car's trunk, where he was able to hang on (and yell) for a quarter mile until the car safely came to a stop. While the rider was seemingly at fault, this is nonetheless one of the more interesting results of a motorcycle accident involving a car on the freeway. In addition to the rider's helmet cam capturing the unlikely series of events, an 18-wheeler happened to have its dashcam rolling and happened to be just behind the biker, capturing it on said dashcam as well. Fortunately the motorcyclist suffered no serious injuries, sadly the same can't be said for his bike.

The driver of the Acura was found to be over the legal blood alcohol limit and was arrested on scene shortly after the collision. Originally posted by the towing company, the unbelievable video racked up over 1,500 views in within only hours of the incident. With the rise in popularity of action cameras, more situations that you need to see to believe will in the future be caught on camera and promptly posted online to go viral. Ride safe.

Glad to see the rider is ok. In NZ YOU ARE at fault if you hit anyone from behind you must always follow at a distance where you can safely stop. Drunks should stay home. And motorcyclists should follow at a safe distance.

Looks like the Acura was going well over the limit and run up on a slower vehicle causing him to slow suddenly. CBR was trying to catch him and just couldn't slow enough.

@TimHuber "the guy previously on the bike..." that's awesome. Well put. I honestly make it a point not to watch videos of motorcycle crashes - or any epic fail compilations for that matter - but this one I had to see. Thanks for sharing. There are lessons to be learned from this.

@SimonHolmes232 I can't speak on what happened leading up to the moment of impact, but the rider had enough momentum to land on the roof of the car's trunk. Whether that was from him speeding up and hitting the Acura, or from the Acura "brake checking" him, the driver of the Acura was drunk and so when the accident happened he didn't want to stick around and get a DUI, especially if the guy was hurt and he was at fault. That's why he speeds up after the accident and the guy previously on the bike was yelling for him to stop for so long. Wild stuff, thanks for checking it out

Looks like a bit of road rage on both parts. The rider didn't like being cut off, flips the bird then chases after the Acura. Why? To put yourself in harms way? The Acura seems to decelerate suddenly- on purpose brake testing the rider? Slowing to avoid hitting the car in front of him the rider probably didn't see? Fellow rider or not, idiot. Acura driver, idiot.
