In an amazing display of personal courage and adaptability, Rainey was back on the track on his Yamaha YZR500 0WE0 as part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week.

The 61-year-old California rode up the hill at Goodwood followed by fellow former champions Kenny Robert, Mick Doohan, and Kevin Schwantz.

This was the first time Rainey, who is now president of MotoAmerica, was on a two-stroke race bike since his accident. The specially modified bike had the rear brake and gearbox controls on the handlebars, allowing him to switch gears by pressing a red button to shift up and pulling the clutch lever to shift down with his left hand, while operating the rear brake with his thumb.
